Typhoon Juan (Megi) had us all singing "I know the PEACE speaker" as we watched winds blow down our mango trees and shred our metal clinic sign to bits. As the rain poured through our closed windows I remember thinking wow I'm in one of the biggest storms that has hit the Philippines in the past 6 years and I'm not afraid. Then I got a text that the worst of the storm was headed our way. Wait a minute... this wasn't the worst. Then images of all my dear friends and patients in their bamboo and thatched roof homes in the villages raced through my mind. They wouldn't withstand winds in excess of 200 kph. We prayed and knew our God was much bigger than Typhoon Juan. When I went the next day and saw all the trees that had fallen over and homes that had literally blown away I found myself in complete awe of the God I serve. In the midst of such destruction not one single person that I knew had been hurt. Yes we know the peace speaker... and I'm so glad we know him by name!!!!
This is the home of one of our patients that is six months pregnant from the village of Pakak. Her home is completely gone and when I asked what she needed she said umm maybe some salt. She was all alone during the storm because her husband was working several hours away. Many of the homes of our friends and patients are completely gone. If you would like to be apart of helping restore these homes and making them more sturdy against future storms you can give to:
