Lots and lots of RAIN....

During my last stay in Bugnay there were three typhoons.  They succeeded in making my life a bit more adventurous.  They caused horrific landslides both ways making it impossible to leave for several days and even after two weeks had passed I walked over them for several hours until I was able to catch a jeep back to Tabuk.  We were without electricity and became very creative in making light once we ran out of candles.  With no access to the nearest towns the village began to run out of laundry soap,  food and medicines.  I now appreciate corned beef and love bloody bloody (the intestines cooked with blood poured over top).

For several days the rain would be insanely heavy for 15 minutes then stop for 2 minutes then start again.  These were the days the entire village played a game.  You hike as fast as you can while the rain has stopped once it starts you quickly run inside the nearest house and visit with them until the rain stops again.  I had so many visitors and visited with so many people just going to take a bath! hehe

One day I watched six boys in the fifth grade panic as the rain poured down after school had left out.  They had to hike all the way to the other side of the mountain and only had one poncho.  They played games with rocks until they decided who would wear the poncho.  Now keep in mind they would need to wear the school uniforms they had on the next day so they couldn't afford to get them dirty.  They proceeded to strip completely naked, shove all their clothes into their backpacks then run while screaming their heads off through the torrential downpour.  Meanwhile one poor guy was stuck carrying all six backpacks and trying to keep them dry under the poncho.  I couldn't help but be grateful they didn't have access to as many textbooks as I did at their age.

Never ever a boring day in Bugnay....
