“I promised I would
never leave you
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away”
And you should always know
Wherever you may go
No matter where you are
I never will be far away”
Billy Joel’s Lullaby lyrics
The other day I heard one of my
best friends outside banging around and squealing. She is a very tough tribal girl so I assumed
she’d just dropped something. I heard
her yell, “Crystal can you come help me?”
I quickly replied, “Sure thing!” Then jumped up and made a mad dash out
the door, ready to SAVE the day!!! Once
outside, I hear something squeaking and observe my friend swinging a
broom. I’m struggling to figure out
what’s going on. I question her, “What
is it? What do you need me to do?” She exclaims, “It’s a rat! Help me corner and kill it!”
I scrunch up my face processing
this request before gasping and whispering to clarify, “a rat!” Just as quickly I’m back inside the house. “A
rat. It’s a rat! I.. I’m staying right here inside! I can’t come out there and help you!” I’m panting.
The fear had taken control of my body.
It’s amazing how one minute I was overjoyed and eager to be able to help
my friend out and then once I’d realized the danger at hand I cowardly ran away
and left her all alone to defend herself against the giant rat! I’m a horrible friend.
Thank goodness Jesus isn’t like me. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 31:8, “…He is right
there with you. He won’t let you down;
He won’t leave you…” No
matter how dangerous the battle you are fighting, how lonely you feel, how
desperate, exhausted, sad or depressed you feel you are never alone. He is ALWAYS right beside you holding your
hand, encouraging you and providing you with strength and courage. This promise is a comfort we can all cling
to!
“I am with you
always, even to the end of the age.” -Matthew 28:20
