Miracle Twins

Early one morning, my phone rings and wakes me up.  It’s my friend saying excitedly, “Crystal, do you want to deliver twins?” Of course I said yes and within minutes I was running downstairs to prepare the birthroom.  The patient came in and ran straight to the CR (bathroom).  I threw on my gloves when I saw her squat and attempted to get her to move to the bed.  It was too late.  I yelled for Blyn, the Filipina we were training to be a midwife to bring me towels and I squatted in that cramped CR with her.  Baby one came out quickly.  I clamped and cut the cord then handed the baby to Blyn.  I tried to check the heart tones of baby two and confirm the position.  I knew it was breech, but I asked anyways if the doctor had told them the positions and they said no.  Soon baby two was out and a hemorrhage was prevented.  Once things calmed down and we knew all three patients were doing well, I began to ask questions.  I knew she was my patient that I had referred to the hospital before Christmas for high blood pressure.  She said labor had begun the day before, my birthday, December 30th.  She was dilated to 6cm when the doctors told her she needed to go home and come back on January 3rd.  Fortunately, we were there to assist her or this story could have ended quite differently.  To this day, I am bewildered by how the hospital staff sent all the patients home so they could enjoy the holidays.

Here's those twins now three years later they came to visit me at the clinic!!!
