“Birth” means the
bestowing of some form of life to this world. Do you know what it’s like
to watch a newborn baby take it’s first few breaths then look at it’s mom and grin, to watch it’s
little body turn pink as it transitions from the womb to life outside? We call this miraculous day a birth day and
every year on this day we make a huge deal out of this day when we first took
oxygen into our lungs and we celebrate the past year that’s been added to our
lives and put our hope in the year ahead of us.
Christmas is when we get to take time to thank God by His grace for
choosing to enter the Earth just like us, to be our Savior and offer us an
abundant life better than anything we could ever imagine. I’ve never went to a big bash, put on a party
hat and eaten cake and ice cream at a birthday party for a dead person. That’d be a little bit weird. The same is true about Christmas we aren’t
celebrating that Jesus is a little baby born in a manger. That was a few thousand years ago. We aren’t even celebrating that He died on a
cross sacrificing Himself for our sins, we are celebrating that the tomb was
rolled away, death was defeated and that little baby is now our King reigning
in Heaven longing for us to grasp the height, width and depth of His steadfast
love for us and that we can live abundantly thru Him. This Christmas be thankful we are celebrating
a birthday of our LORD that is alive and lives in us!
“… I have come that they may have
life and have it more abundantly.”
-John 10:10
I remember hearing a sermon once about how you can
only have a blue depressed Christmas or a white joyful Christmas obviously
filled with snow. As I sit in front of
my fan in this 90 degree weather with sunburn from doing laundry I can only
laugh… though my Christmas will not be white it will be far from blue. I am so grateful God has allowed me to follow
Him here to minister to the wonderful people in Kalinga, Philippines. I’m grateful that each and every day is an
adventure. I’m grateful for His grace
and patience and that I’m constantly able to learn how to love just a little
bit more.
“Speak
tenderly. Let there be kindness in your
face, in your eyes, in your smile, in the warmth of our greeting. Always have a
cheerful smile. Don't only give your care, but give your heart as well.”
